Nazca

The Nazca Lines are a series of geoglyphs located in the Nazca Desert, a high arid plateau that stretches 53 miles or more than 80 kilometers between the towns of Nazca and Palpa on the Pampas de Jumana in Peru. They were created by the Nazca culture between 200 BC and AD 700. There are hundreds of individual figures, ranging in complexity from simple lines to stylized hummingbirds, spiders, monkeys, fishes, sharks, llamas and lizards.

The Nazca lines cannot be recognized as coherent figures except from the air. Since it is presumed the Nazca people could never have seen their work from this vantage point, there has been much speculation on the builders' abilities and motivations.

Chauchilla Full day

(Cemetery Chauchilla.)

We pick you up at your hotel, and along with our local guide we will go to the southern side of Nazca, through the Pan-American Highway near 21 kilometers.

We will take a dusty way which is in terrible conditions to arrive at the archaeological site of Chauchilla. Once n the cemetery of Chauchilla we will be able to visit the tombs that contain ceramics and human remains.

Our guide will be in charge to guide us throughout the place and to explain about this old culture that developed in the zone about 1000 years ago. Besides the tombs, our visitors will also be able to enjoy a beautiful desert landscape surrounded by colorful hills. After crossing Chauchilla, we are going to return to Nazca in order to visit a ceramic factory, where a craftsman will give a good explanation about the Nazca ceramic. Here we are going to be able to learn step by step all the process followed in the elaboration of the ceramics, but above all support these people buying some ceramic and other souvenirs. To finish our visit, also we are going to visit the premises where the men are working tirelessly extracting gold. Here an experienced miner will explain the old method they use to obtain gold from the rocks.
