Puno

The department of Puno is located in the southeast area of Peru. In the shores of Titicaca Lake and over 12 555 feet above sea level. It has an uneven topography with the majority of cities located in the high areas of the sierra. It has 27 947 Sq miles and a population of a million of inhabitants.

Among the most important cities are: Juliaca, Azángaro, Huancané, Lampa and Yunguyo. The amazing Titicaca Lake which is the most navigable lake of the entire world with an area of 8,560 km2 and a maximum depth of 745 feet, the transparency of its waters is remarkable.

There are 36 islands and the most important are Taquile and Amantani.

Titicaca Lake Tours 2 days

FIRST DAY:

Puno - UROS floating - Amantani island local family.

Early in the morning (7: 30 a.m.) we pick you up at your hotel. Immediately we depart to a boat towards the island of the Uros (2 hours). Fishermen and hunters inhabit the floating islands of the Uros. The inhabitants of the Uros use totora reeds, a type of material that grows in the lake, in order that the islands stay and guarantee the islands floating. The growing of the thick roots of the totora plants is the support of the island. The ceilings are impermeable and the houses are extremely humid due to that they are surrounded by water.

Keeping on our boat trip, we will arrive at next island called Amantaní, where we will also share experiences with the local families, who will offer us their warm typical houses, as well as they will give us accommodation for one night. The family will contribute with all the meals (1B – 1L – 1D). After tlunch all the group will go on foot until the highest point of the island, called Pachatata temple (4200 msnm). It is the best place from where you can obtain images of all the points of this sacred blue lake of the Incas. After the guide´s explanation you will return to the houses to have dinner. After that you will enjoy the typical dances and music at night with the families.

SECOND DAY:

Amantani Aisland - TAQUILE Aisland - Puno.

In the morning, after breakfast you will continue with the boat trip towards the island of Taquile, approximately 2 hours and a half away, crossing the lake you arrive to the last place of your visit. Visit and explanation about the life, culture, typical clothes and every common activity in the Main Square, then a short trekking around the island, returning for lunch. The Island of Taquile is famous by its handicrafting production, in particular by its beautiful textiles. The island is narrow it is only 1 km in width, but of 6 to 7 km in length. There are several pre-inka and Inka remains and terraces in Taquile. After all these you will return to Puno. Arriving there at 5:00 p.m.
