Arequipa

Location: Coast and sierra (Andes) at the south of Peru.
Area: 24 458 Sq miles.
Capital: Arequipa (7660 feet above sea level)
The lowest altitude: 30 feet above sea level (Punta de Bombón)
The highest altitude: 16,110 feet above sea level (Mirador de Volcanes - Caylloma)
Climate: Annual average temperature is of 68 ºF (the highest altitude of 104 ºF and the lowest one of 39.2 ºF). The rainy season starts on December and it lasts until March.

How to get to Arequipa?
By air: Daily flights from Lima - Arequipa (50 minutes approx)
Cusco – Arequipa (30 minutes approx)
Juliaca – Arequipa (30 minutes approx)
Tacna – Arequipa (30 minutes approx)

By land: From Lima – Arequipa, 1003 km through the road Panamericana sur (14 hours by car approx). For tourists that go to Cusco by land, the rout is 279 miles, (10 hours by car approx).

FIRST DAY: AREQUIPA / Chivay

We pick you up at 7:30 from your hotels so that at 08:00 in the morning we set off towards the northwest of Arequipa with direction to the snow capped mountains of Chachani. Yura, a small valley with hot springs, after that in the in the National PAMPAS CAÑAHUAS reserve we will see wild vicunas (4500 masl/14850 feet), Alpacas and llamas, some birds like flamingos, ibis, Andean geese, ducks, Andean eagle " Kara Kara" . Then we arrive to the point of view of the volcanos and mountains covered with snow in Patapampa (4800 M.s) (15000ft.), and the snow peaks of Ampato, Sabancaya, Walca Walca, etc) Once we arrive to Chivay, capital city of the valley we will leave our things in the hotel. After lunch around 3:00 p.m. the bus will pick us up to visit the city of Coporaque place where we will begin to trek for approximately 2 hours so that we will enjoy nature and beautiful landscapes, also we will see a pre-inka cemetery. After the trekking we will enjoy the hot springs of La Calera, around 5:00 p.m. The water temperature changes between 35 º to 38 º degrees Celsius. Dinner at 8:00 p.m. with a show of folk dances.

SECOND DAY: Chivay / COLCA CANYON

Early in the morning after breakfast we go away towards "Cross of Condor" strategic view point or watchtower, from where we can appreciate the depth of the canyon and the flight of the Condor. Scale models on stone, some pre-inka tombs. On our return we will be able to see typical beautiful cities, Yanque and Maca, colonial churches, people with in needle typical clothes taking care of them, hundreds of pre-inka terraces pre Incas still in use where typical crops are grown like the maize, quinua, kiwicha (Amaranth), etc.

Lunch time and return to Arequipa. (6 p.m. approx in Arequipa).
