Machupicchu

It is located 120 kilometer in the northwest area from Cusco over Urubamba River (it’s a name taken from Vilcanota River), in Vilcabamba Mountains. Its altitude is over 7810 feet above sea level. Machu Picchu citadel is one of the most important archeological places in the entire world and it’s the main destination of Peru. Few works made by the man show so much harmony with the nature as this citadel shows us and the 33 archeological groups that are united through Inca Trail.

The archeological complex is located in the top of a mountain, Machu Picchu (quechua word that means “old mountain or the main mountain”) that gives to the citadel the name and the amazing landscape that all of us have seen. In front of it, the amazing mountain of Wayna Picchu appears (“young mountain”) in which between summits and slopes, some archeological remains are located. Both summits limits on the plentiful Urubamba River, that runs to the eastern, at 400 meter under the citadel.

Altitude: It is 2490 meters above the sea level, taking the center of the archeological site as a reference point. According to some scientists it might have been created about 36 thousand years b.c.

Weather: As it is situated in a subtropical area; the temperature rises from 8º to 22º C. The rainy season is from December to April.

Inka Trail 2 days

FIRST DAY

We pick you up at you hotel between 6:00 to 6:20 a.m. taking you to the train station or bus station. Going by train until Km. 104, takes 3.45 hours. We begin walking until the first archaeological site of CHACHABAMBA, guided visit. After that we keep on walking, along our way we will observe the flora and fauna of the zone. At the distance we will be able to appreciate the great MACHUPICCHU mountain and the archaeological site of CHOQUESUYSUY, nearly 3 hours later we will get to the WIÑAYWAYNA archaeological park, after a brief guided visit, we will continue with our walking towards INTIPUNCO, thence will have a panoramic view of MACHUPICCHU, can observe the beauty of the late afternoon. We will continue with walk by MACHUPICCHU citadel, but we will not visit it this day.

In one more hour we will be arriving to Aguas Calientes town, where a repairing dinner will be offered to us in a restaurant, overnight in a hotel with private bathroom.

SECOND DAY

Next morning, after an early breakfast at the hotel, we began our walking to get to Machu Piccu Citadel, you will have a guided visit of approximately 2 hours. It is up to the visitors to stay longer or not within the sanctuary until the scheduled time of the return ticket.

Getting back to Cusco according to the different train- schedules from1:00 pm. to 6:00 p.m. The train takes you only until OLLANTAYTAMBO. The train services are used according to availability in the company of Peru Rail.

From Ollantaytambo you will be taken back to Cusco by bus. Take into account that there is a single direct service until the city of Cusco called Backpacker. Even though there is another service called Vistadome, a first class service where you will have to refund the difference between these two train services. All these services are offered during the peak season
