The region of Arequipa features Peru's deepest canyons, the Colca (3400 meters deep / 11,512 feet deep) and Cotahuasi (3535 meters deep / 11,598 feet deep). Colca comes from the quechua word for "granary". The canyon is formed by the Colca River and its length is covered in hundreds of pre-hispanic terraces
ITINERARY:
Day 1 Lima – Arequipa
Breakfast. Pick up from your Hotel. Transfer to Lima International Airport. Arrive in Arequipa, reception and transfer to your Hotel. Morning at your leisure.
In the afternoon visit the Plaza de Armas, the Cathedral, Cloisters, Churches and beautiful domes of La Compañia de Jesus church, colonial district of Yanahuara with a magnificent view of the Misti volcano. Then we will enter the Santa Catalina´s Monastery, considered as only in their gender in South America. It was founded in 1580 and recently open to the public in 1970. It possesses narrow squares and gardens with Spanish names that remind us of the old neighborhoods in Seville and Granada, Spain.
Transfer to Arequipa Airport for the flight to Lima or bus station.
