The department of Puno is located in the southeast area of Peru. In the shores of Titicaca Lake and over 12 555 feet above sea level. It has an uneven topography with the majority of cities located in the high areas of the sierra. It has 27 947 Sq miles and a population of a million of inhabitants.

Among the most important cities are: Juliaca, Azángaro, Huancané, Lampa and Yunguyo. The amazing Titicaca Lake which is the most navigable lake of the entire world with an area of 8,560 km2 and a maximum depth of 745 feet, the transparency of its waters is remarkable.

There are 36 islands and the most important are Taquile and Amantani.

Imagen 2The lake is very popular among tourists and scientists alike. It is a national reserve and is home to numerous species of birds and water fowl, a dozen species of fish, several mammals and seven amphibians, including a unique species of giant frog.

The lake is also home to the floating islands made of reeds that are populated by the Uros.

ITINERARY:

Imagen 2Day 1 Puno – Islands of the Uros

Breakfast. Pick up from your Hotel and transfer to airport. Arrive at Puno. Transfer to your Hotel.

Transfer from the hotel to the pier of lake Titicaca (the highest navigable lake in the world) for a boat trip to the floating islands of the Uros, made of totora reeds that grow abundantly in the lake. This is what gives them their appearance and the swaying feel under your feet when you walk on the island.

Day 2 Chullpas of Sillustani

Imagen 2Breakfast. Excursion to the Chullpas of Sillustani, 19 miles from the city of Puno, near lake Umayo. There are well preserved funerary towers where the Colla nobility were buried.

Transfer to the airport for the flight to Lima or transfer for bus station.
