Puno region between Peru and Bolivia, Titicaca is the world's highest navigable lake, at 3,820 meters.
It covers an area of over 8,300 square kilometers (5,146 square miles), of which 4,700 square km (2,914 square miles) are in Peru. The ancient andean civilizations of the Quechua and Aymara, the two most important ethnic groups of ancient Peru, believed the lake was sacred and legend has it that the founders of the Inca Empire, Manco Capac and Mama Ocllo, emerged from its waters.
ITINERARY:
Day 1: Puno – Islands of the Uros
Pick up from your Hotel or transfer to airport. Arrive at Puno.
Transfer from the hotel to the pier of lake Titicaca (the highest navigable lake in the world) for a boat trip to the floating islands of the Uros, made of totora reeds that grow abundantly in the lake. This is what gives them their appearance and the swaying feel under your feet when you walk on the island.
In the afternoon or in the night. The transfer to airport or bus station.
