Machupicchu

It is located 120 kilometer in the northwest area from Cusco over Urubamba River (it’s a name taken from Vilcanota River), in Vilcabamba Mountains. Its altitude is over 7810 feet above sea level. Machu Picchu citadel is one of the most important archeological places in the entire world and it’s the main destination of Peru. Few works made by the man show so much harmony with the nature as this citadel shows us and the 33 archeological groups that are united through Inca Trail.

The archeological complex is located in the top of a mountain, Machu Picchu (quechua word that means “old mountain or the main mountain”) that gives to the citadel the name and the amazing landscape that all of us have seen. In front of it, the amazing mountain of Wayna Picchu appears (“young mountain”) in which between summits and slopes, some archeological remains are located. Both summits limits on the plentiful Urubamba River, that runs to the eastern, at 400 meter under the citadel.

Altitude: It is 2490 meters above the sea level, taking the center of the archeological site as a reference point. According to some scientists it might have been created about 36 thousand years b.c.

Weather: As it is situated in a subtropical area; the temperature rises from 8º to 22º C. The rainy season is from December to April.

Inka Trail 2d/1n

FIRST DAY Inka Trail 2 days - Jisa Travel

Pick you up at your hotel between 6:00 and 6:30 a.m. to the bus station, soon to go to the train station located at Ollantaytambo town, we catch the train to get to the nearest station which is called Km 104.

From here, we began trekking about 15 minutos and arrive to the first archeological site of CHACHABAMBA, in the course of the trekking we can observe the flora and fauna of the zone. Likewise, from the spot we can appreciate the great mountain of Machu Picchu and the archeological site of CHOQUESUYSUY. approximately 3 hours later we will be arriving to the archeological park of WIÑAYWAYNA, after a brief visit, we will continue our trekking towards INTIPUNCO, from where we will have a preliminar panoramic view of MACHUPICCHU, and observe the beauty of the dask, 40 minutes later we will go through MACHUPICCHU Citadel. This day we will not be able to visit this site. We shall continue walking for an hour more, towards the town of Aguas Calientes, where a repairing supper will be waiting for us at the restaurant. Next, we will prepare ourselves to spend the night in a comfortable inn with private bath.

SECOND DAY

Inka Trail Machupicchu - Jisa TravelThe next day, very early, we will breakfast at the hostal, and start our trekking until INTIPUNCO. We will be able to observe the dawn, soon we will get down to the citadel, where we will take a short rest after which we will have a guided tour of 2 hours approximately. After that, you will have the opportunity to appreciate the citadel calmly.

To return to Cusco there are different train schedules as the ones of 1:00 p.m and 5:00 p.m, these go only until OLLANTAYTAMBO, after that we will take you to the city of Cusco by bus. There are two direct schedules until Cusco that are the one of the 3:55 and 4:20 p.m. All these services are used during the peak season.

NOTE

This service is offered during the pick season because the railway company Perú Rail S.A. is not able to supply this service to transfer all the tourists in the service of backpacker, therefore this company has to offer other type of service called Bolt or FERROSTAL, at the same price and with the same service quality of the former.
